The 4th Biennale focused on the New Physicality with came out as the Internet and multimedia became part of out lives, the physical world and virtual reality have become closely interrelated in this new ara with media environment. This exhibition analyzed a paradoxical situation where the real world influences virtual reality under the keyword of "Dual Realities." The exhibition approached this New Physicality with an artistic language and diverse and creative ideas that will sublimate positive and negative sides and the division of cyberspace to integration and even healing with three sub-themes, "Dual Realities: Encounter and Clash," "Extension of Reality: Permeation of Experience and Play," "Competitive Realities: Seeking A New Relationship."

Maarten Bertheux (Netherlands)

Maarten Bertheux had been curator of Since Stedelijk Museum since 1986 and especially responsible for the collection presentations. Raúl Zmudio (U.S.A)

Raúl Zamudio was born in Mexico and is a New York-based independent curator and art critic. He was Director of Exhibitions at White Box New York, and as a curator, he has organized close to 50 solo and group exhibitions in museums, galleries, and art fairs in the U.S., Europe, Mexico, and China including video and new media exhibitions at DIVA Digital and Video Art Fairs in NY, NY and Miami. He was also co-curator of an official off-site project at the 2005 Venice Biennial. As an art critic, he is contributing editor for Art Nexus, and NY correspondent for Flash Art. He is also host of Art After Dark and After, a curatorial project masked as a talk show.

Tohru Matsumoto (Japan)

Tohru Matsumoto was born in Japan and majored in aesthetics and art history at Kyoto University. He is the head curator of the Department of Program Development at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. He has worked as the head curator of the Department of Art and Science at the same gallery and as the curator of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. He has also planned various exhibitions, which conducted discussions about modern art and he has planned a private exhibition and photo exhibition of the representative Japanese modern artists such as 'The Unfinished Century: Legacies of 20th Century Art (2002)', 'Yayoi Kusama: Eternity-Modernity (2004),' 'Cubism in Asia: Unbounded Dialogues (2005),' 'Modern Age in Japanese Sculpture from its Beginnings through the 1960s (2007).'

Andreas Broeckmann (Germany)

Dr. Andreas Broeckmann is an art historian and curator who lives in Berlin. From 2005 till 2007, he has been one of three artistic directors of TESLA - Laboratory for Arts and Media in Berlin. In 2007 he is co-chairing the Berlin conference 're:place 2007' on the histories of art, media, science and technology. Broeckmann studied art history, sociology, and media studies in Germany and Britain. From 2000 to 2007 he was the Artistic Director of transmediale - festival for art and digital culture berlin. From 1995-2000, he worked as a project manager at V2_Organisation Rotterdam, Institute for the Unstable Media. He is a member of the advisory board for Visual Arts of the Goethe Institut, and of the Council for the Arts, Berlin.

Ilho Park (Director of the 5th Seoul Internatioanl Media Art Biennale)

Ilho Park graduated in Aesthetics, Seoul National University and was granted the Master's degree and the doctorate of the same university. He is currently associate Professor in Ehwa Womans University, has taken active part as an art critic and acted as a curator of Daejeon Museum of Art. He held media art exhibition such as "Science in Art" and "2002 Media Art - Daejeon, New York: Special Effects" while in office as the curator of Daejeon Museum of Art and has researched and Written serving as the chairman of Institute of Modern Art, the member of Korean Society of Aesthetics, Association of Western Art of History and Korean Association of Art Critics. His book is as follows. : "Art is Language (Munye Madang:2002)" ,"See in Sensitivity and Read in Reason (Life and Dream:2004)", "The Way of Art, The Way of Culture (Sisamedia, Jungang Daily:2005)" and "Art, Symbol and Symbol Form(Yejunsa:2006).

The 3rd Biennale exhibition explored the language and structure of games and play in this era. The exhibitio forcused on game culture that is represented by computer games, which are integrated in the everyday lives of many people; the economic impact of the games industry, and socio-cultural implications of various kinds of existing games, are examined from various angles with the focus of media art in the main exhibition. By examining this current phenomenon, the future implication of the game culture and the media art are also explored.

The main theme of The 2nd Seoul International Media Art Biennale was "Luna's Flow." In The moon has always been a resource of Utopian filled with myths and legends for the humankind. In this biennale, the transcendental sublime of the moon was compared to the new Cyber Sublime where Neo-Transcendental grounds exceed the Basic Reality. The exhibition was divided into four sub-projects under the themes of "Digital Sublime", "Cyber Mind", "Luna's Children" and "Luna Nova", and various media artworks were arranged to realize the notion of "Sublime" in the "Cyber Space" that was compared to the moon.

The 1st Seoul International Media Art Biennale was based on the theme "City: between 0 and 1" that is to interpret the ways in which the digital revolution is transcending physical boundaries of space and time. It was an artistic and cultural trial to underscore the deliberate and strong intentions of the megalopolis of Seoul to search for new directions, a new ethos in an uncertain yet exiting age, and examined a broad spectrum of media art ranging from mixed-media installations to computer-generated works, dating from the inception of media art to the present. Many worldly renowned artists such as Nam June Paik, Vito Acconci, Laurie Anderson, Dan Graham, Matthew Barney, Gray Hill, Joan Jonas, Bruce Nauman, Bill viola, Tony Oursler and Stan Douglas alongside relatively young and emerging artists participated in this exhibition.
